• That feeling of burn out do to not seeing positive changes in our patient's lives is devastating. Seeing blood pressures and A1C's going up instead of normalizing is very frustrating and it leaves you wondering if we, as providers, have failed them somehow. After embracing a low carbohydrate lifestyle and seeing the positive changes in my own life, it allowed me to see a different treatment option. I actually feel like I am making a difference again by improving and even reversing metabolic diseases using the SMHP guidelines. Thank you for sharing your story!

• Hello everyone! My name is James Hall and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. I was one of the providers who routinely discouraged my patients from using a Ketogenic diet over the years, thinking it was unhealthy and just a fad diet like so many others. I recommended low fat diet, exercise more, and advocated calories in vs calories out and when it didn't work, I blamed the patient for not trying hard enough. Diabetes runs in my family and over the years, as I put on weight, I found out I had type 2 diabetes as well. I had used diet pills, low fat diet, and restricted calories but it never lasted and always came back, usually weighing more than when I started. I exercised regularly but found it more and more difficult to lose weight or control my diabetes, even on medication. I saw a documentary on how ketogenic diet could successfully control diabetes and help with weight and I speechless. I began reading research and learning as much as I could and never realized how many metabolic illnesses were interlinked! I started doing a ketogenic diet and at 3 months I had lost 44 lbs, my A1C had dropped to 5.3, my vitamin D deficiency was gone, my TSH was normal off medication, my lipids were normal off medication, and I no longer needed my C-pap. I started talking to my family and friends and showing them my results and they also tried ketogenic lifestyle and have all had similar results! I now recommend it to my patients and have seen dramatic improvements such as deprescribing statins, insulin, and other oral diabetic medications as well as significant weight loss, some as much as 50 lbs in just three months. I'm very excited to share this with friends, family, and patients and I feel like I am actually making a difference again.
