James graduated from Vocational school and earned his LPN in 1996. After several years, he decided to further his education and enrolled in the local community college and completed the required training, earning his Associate Degree in Nursing and RN in 2001. As a registered nurse, James practiced in a variety of settings including hospital, psychiatric, clinic, and dialysis fields. After another several years, James again returned to college and graduate school and earned his BSN from Eastern Kentucky University in 2007 and his MSN in 2010 from EKU and became certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Since then James has been working in rural health clinics in Eastern Kentucky. James was awarded the title of Kentucky Colonel by the Governor in 2011 for his work in rural communities. James began struggling with his weight in his 40's, eventually developing type 2 diabetes. James followed the advice he frequently gave his own patients and tried calorie restrictive diets, medications, and moderate amounts of exercise to try to control it without success. On the advice of his daughter, James considered a ketogenic diet, something he had told his patients to avoid in the past. After watching a documentary on low carbohydrate diets and how it successfully treated and even reversed type 2 diabetes, James decided to try it. After only 3 months, James had lost nearly 50 pounds, and reversed his type 2 diabetes. James has since started recommending therapeutic carbohydrate restriction to friends, family, and patients with much success!
