Since we are a global organization, situations crop up all the time where there are differences and nuances in the medical, legal and insurance systems in different countries compared to those in the United States. For that reason, we have introduced the concept of international chapters where we are building teams of practitioners in different countries who can provide guidance and support for members who live there to navigate these differences.
The board of the Canadian Chapter is chaired by Dr. Evelyne Bourdua-Roy, a family physician in Quebec. She founded a not-for-profit clinic dedicated to reversing lifestyle-related chronic conditions, which treated over 2000 patients from 2017 to 2023. The remainder of the board is made up of Beth McNally, MS, MA, CNS, LDN, Vic Basmadjian, MHP, Roxana Soetebeer, MHP, and Pascal Lemieux, LPN

Beth McNally’s journey with nutrition began in 2015 when her son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. From the first questions of “what is Type 1 diabetes, exactly?” and “what is a carb anyway?” to “how do you manage T1D to achieve normal blood sugars to protect our son?”, Beth’s family has relied on Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction (TCR) for more than eight years to make diabetes easier to manage.
Even after achieving normal blood sugars for her son, the questions kept coming: How does the body work? How do I make sure my child is getting everything he needs in his diet? Will he grow? In pursuit of answers, Beth completed a Master of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health, became a Certified Nutrition Specialist® and a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist®, and a Licensed Nutritionist (LDN). She is currently completing dietetics studies.
Beth believes every person diagnosed with T1D should have an opportunity to learn how their medical condition can benefit from a therapeutic approach to nutrition. Sharing her knowledge as a clinical nutrition professional and as a caregiver, Beth has a private practice that teaches and guides families living with T1D to use TCR to achieve better diabetes outcomes.
Beth is also the CGM Maven on Miriam Kalamian’s Keto for Cancer nutrition team, educating people on how to use continuous glucose monitors to understand the impact of food and lifestyle choices on their management of their cancer diagnosis.

Pascal has been a Type 1 diabetic since the age of 11. Driven by a passion for health, well-being, and endurance sports. Pascal encountered numerous challenges with his diabetes management over the years.
It must be said that in 2010, despite all his efforts, his diabetes was not going very well, and he had developed several diabetes-related complications: proliferative retinopathy, gastroparesis, trigger fingers, shoulder capsulitis, insulin resistance, depression, severe hypoglycemia with sugar cravings.
By serendipity, in 2014, Pascal discovered the low-carb diet for managing his diabetes. Since then, he has regained control of his diabetes thanks to the innovative approach detailed in the book Diabetes Solution by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein, endocrinologist, himself a type 1 diabetic for 77 years.
The results were nothing short of transformational for Pascal, who saw his retinopathy go from proliferative to inactive, succeeded in reducing his insulin doses by 60% and lost almost 30 kg. Above all, Pascal has regained an unhoped-for quality of life thanks to remarkable glycemic stability.
This approach not only transformed his health but also fueled his passion to educate and support others in managing type 1 diabetes. Inspired by countless type 1 diabetic doctors and healthcare professionals globally following a low-carb diet in managing diabetes effectively, in 2020, Pascal decided to go back to school to become a licensed practical nurse, with the aim of helping type 1 diabetics by getting involved in the community.
“It’s all about the community holding together to change the world by empowering patients and physicians with knowledge and practical tips.”
